How to Join ekugimps

First, go here to download the current GIMPS client for your platform.

Once you've downloaded and installed the client, you'll get a screen like this.

Click join gimps.

Then...

All you need on this screen is exactly what you see here.

Finally, you need to tell GIMPS how much of your memory it can use. During the time that you will be using your computer it's best to not allow too much. Most of our machines have between 256 and 512 MB of memory and we allow GIMPS to use 32 MB of that. This will make GIMPS pretty transparent to the user. At night, you can let GIMPS use much more. It's best not to use your full memory capacity though, a good rule of thumb would be around three fourths. If you have 256 MB, let GIMPS use 192 MB. If you have 512 MB let GIMPS use 384 MB. (these are only suggestions) If by chance you end up using your computer late into the night and it feels sluggish (it will) you can always revise these numbers or temporarily shut GIMPS down.

This should get you started in the search for Mersenne Primes!
